Aperire: to open!

Aperire: to open, to reveal, to uncover. April!

Spring is just such a pleasure after a hard weather winter; especially April.

Our garden at the Inn is my first, apart from a postage stamp in Old Town in Chicago. After ten years it still amazes and inspires me every year! The daffodils and crocus are up, the tulips are poking through and budding, and the herb garden survived with chives, parsley, thyme, mint and oregano. Plants whose names I cannot recall, but that I planted, are poking up through the ground as well as weeds, known and unknown. All are welcome!

Test Kitchen: Spain

If you’ve stayed with us at the inn you already know that food is our love language.

We travel over the winter to rest and recharge and usually find ourselves in southern Spain or the Balearics. Its the slow season and we love it! Truth: we’re always looking for our Saugatuck…in Spain. Great food, warm people, beautiful views, water nearby. Its like spring in Saugatuck. Lovely, relaxed, easy. The trees are budding, the gardens waking, and you can get a table at your favorite restaurant.

Food is such a pleasure, and it’s even better when you sit down at a table and have a dish that makes you say wow! Out loud! ..or in your head. Especially when you’re not expecting it.
